What is Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser?

This is a laser system that delivers high peak power within nano to picosecond to selectively vibrate and fragmentise the pigments with minimal heat injury to the surrounding tissue.

How is Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser performed?

Most patients will feel the pulses as quick tingling sensations, like tiny rubber bands snapped against the skin. For tattoo removal, as the dark ink can absorb a larger amount of energy therefore the patient may feel some discomfort. In such case, anaesthetic and cold air may be applied prior to the treatment for maximum comfort. The procedure usually lasts between 10 to 20 minutes.

Are there any downtime/ side effects?

Q-Switched Nd:YAG procedure is safe. There is a possibility of mild flushing that should resolve after 30 minutes. More obvious localized redness lasting a few days may occur with intensive treatments. Most patients can resume their daily routine immediately after the treatment. For removal of tattoo and superficial pigments, scabbing will form which will drop off after several days.
